The Cheerleader

by William 'Doc' Haggerty

She said she doesn't dance at all.

Boy was I surprised.

When I found she'd been a cheerleader.

Then I really wish she'd tried.

I've been told the same some other times.

But I'd got them to the floor.

Ballet, gymnastics, jazz and tap,

Roller derby and some more.

Once there was this Irish lass

Who'd Irish jig the whole night long.

She asked me how to partner dance

So she'd not be seen as wrong.

So why not try some other way.

Don't give up on her just yet.

Take your time and work with her.

Her as dancer I would get.

But then I felt there is a way

That's more gentle and mature.

Get on your knees and beg to her

She'll then dance with you for sure.

No, better yet I'll talk with her

And make a deal that's true.

I'll join her group immediately

Once she's given me a new.

A new and better attitude

'Bout overcoming her long fear

Of dancing like a weak partner

And looking a bit weird.

Because with me out leading her

We'd ebb and flow in time

To each beat of the music

We'd be sure to look real fine.

She's got the stuff that men look for

When they scan round the room.

And that face of hers'll knock 'em dead

'Cause when dancing she will bloom.

So time is just the issue now.

I can wait as well as her.

I'm sure she'll least give it a try.

Though we'll continue to confer.
