Acknowledgement

Thanks to Rich Wilson of Rich Wilson studios in Pittsburgh for the photograph of my dad's Ike jacket. Having that photo helped me take this entire project 'on the road' as it were.

Special thanks to Mike Marino, Social Science Librarian at the Carnegie, Pittsburgh. His patience and understanding were quite helpful when first starting this project as neither of us was quite certain how to interpret the markings on the Ike jacket. Mike found the copy of Leutienant General Lucien Truscott's book 'Command Missions' for me. That valuable reference was not included on the bibliography I got from the Carlisle Barracks' U. S. Army Military History Institute. Mike also located the book 'History of The Third Infantry Division In WWII' where I found dad's picture.

Speaking of pictures, I don't want to forget Kinko's Copy Centers. They proved invaluable. In the beginning, I used them for printing my draft copies and just before uploading these internet files, I used Kinko's for converting Word files to HTML format and scanning the pictures.

I would also like to thank Louise Arnold-Friend, Reference Historian at the U. S. Army Military History Institute for her bibliography and other references. My trip to the Institute allowed me to review books, photographs, personal histories and surveys of other Third Infantry Division members.

As usual, my brother Rick and his wife Tabitha provided me with support and encouragement. My sister Pat helped to identify dad's picture. Her excitement helped inspire me as well. And, of course, thanks to my mother for the Ike jacket and for keeping me on the right track. Special thanks to my brother George for reviewing my rough draft. His praise of my research and story telling ability was certainly well received.
