Your Division

The Third Division was unaffectionately referred to by the enemy as the "Sturm Division" (or Storm Division) and justly so. In its 31 months of campaigning, it never once fell back from the Germans and it chased them through the Mediterranean, the length of France and deep into their own country, always in the assault. The division wears more battle stars than any other in the European Theatre of Operations, has made four major amphibiuos landings in the eight campaigns of this war.

Men of the Third have been awarded twice as many Congressional Medals of Honor than any other Division. One out of every five has gone to a Third Division man. From the French, the Division has won the Croix de Guerre with Fourragere, the only American division to receive these honors in this war.

In 1918, the Third Division earned the name of the "Rock of the Marne" for its courageous stand on the Marne River, in France. In this war, it has won the respect of friend and foe alike as one of the greatest attack divisions in the business, and rolled up a fighting record second to none amongst the entire United Nations group.
